Environment Ridge Crest is the UK's first cleaning company to provide a completely environmentally friendly cleaning contract, and we are committed to protecting the environment wherever possible. As a result we only use environmentally friendly and fully biodegradable cleaning products on every contract, and recognise our responsibility towards protecting the environment, both short and long term. The company is currently at stage four (of six) towards securing European ISO14001 environmental management system certification and will become fully carbon neutral by 2010. It was rewarded for its commitment to the environment by winning a Kent Environment Award in 2006 for its best practice.
Some jobs that we undertake have obvious potential to cause a detrimental environmental impact. Incidents such as chemical spillage, improper disposal of waste, unnecessary emissions into water or the atmosphere must all be prevented and reported immediately. Likewise, practices and procedures that do not minimize adverse effects on the environment must be referred to line management for new initiatives to be implemented as appropriate. On-going liaison between our clients, suppliers and local site management forms the front line in developing environmental solutions that are in compliance with environmental legislation.
In partnership with Maidstone Borough Council Ridge Crest implemented the UK’s first environmentally friendly cleaning contract. Maidstone was the first council or government department to make this commitment to the environment. As the council's preferred cleaning contractors, Ridge Crest Cleaning Limited now use only environmentally friendly and bio-degradable cleaning products. Every bin liner will be bio degradable and the council's paper towels and toilet rolls will be manufactured from 100% post consumer recycled and chlorine free products. Ridge Crest has adopted that approach to all of its cleaning contracts, and its commitment to the environment is now the cornerstone of the company's mission statement. Ian Beach, Managing Director, said "Everything that we use will be ecologically friendly, with a minimal effect on the environment during manufacture and far greater use will be made of the latest steam cleaning and microfibre cleaning systems. The cleaning products have all been tested and found to be as good as or even better than the regular alternative. There is a huge difference in the products we will use because all the raw materials will be free from animal by-products and no raw or finished products will have been tested on animals. Ridge Crest does not simply focus on the cleaning products it uses. All containers and packaging it uses contain high levels of recycled material and the packages themselves are recycled after use.
